The Consequences of Girl Power, 2003, Paint and Fabric on Dresser, 44"x70"x19"
Collaboration with Nicole Repack, Photography by Judy Reed
The Consequences of Girl Power is a collaborative piece made with Nicole Repack. Nicole upholstered the drawers and I painted the cartoons and lettering. The cartoons are a personal satire of the inevitable tension in our relationship during our residency at Norcal Sanitary Fill. While at the Residency, I was introduced to the poet Pablo Neruda. I used his poem “The Furies” and lettered his words around the caricatures and top of the dresser.
“...our love is a harsh cord that binds us wounding us and if we want to leave our wound, to separate, it makes a new knot for us and condemns us to drain our blood and burn together.”
