Artist Statement for
Little Miss Attitude Series
I wanted to see how many ways that I could express attitude in a cartoon; attitude meaning a settled way of thinking about something. While doing the LMA’s, I thought about my own adolescence, how it symbolized the end of my virginity, and the beginning of sexual conflict. I thought about how important identity was and still is. I also thought about what I did in order to cope with the many adult obstacles that I did not yet understand and that I’m still trying to understand. LMA became an exploration of attributes and behavior that I used to exercise my own strengths and to cover up my weaknesses.
I chose to paint all females because they have a unique assortment of ways to express themselves, to empower themselves.
